Why run a school board campaign?

As noted in the “Who can vote for board members?” blog post there are five districts represented on Riverview School Board of directors. The board members serve four year terms. In 2015 three members terms expired and this year two members expire: District 1 and District 5. There is a short window of time (May 15-19) with the King County Elections office to file for candidacy. If no one else files as in the case for District 5 – the director runs unopposed and there is no need to run a campaign; however, in District 1 two people filed for candidacy, myself and Stuart Lisk. In this case, we both are running a campaign for the same seat and both need to run election campaigns. You will see both our names in the voter’s pamphlet and on the ballot on November 7. Election season is off an running!
