“a fresh perspective”

These are the words being used by many who are running against incumbents for school boards across the nation. What does a “fresh perspective” mean. Perspective by definition is a particular way of thinking about something, especially one that is influenced by your beliefs or experiences. When the word “fresh” is added: this indicates that the current perspective is no longer successful, a change is needed. At Riverview School District, I’d argue that the district is and continues to be very successful. Riverview continues to work toward the vision: To become a National Model of Educational Excellence. Starting with our students, many who are leading the way as they earn national recognition in Future Business Leaders of America, DECA Inc., Academics (97.4% on time graduation), Arts, Athletics, and much more. Our teachers are among the top teachers, many have degrees beyond a teaching degree, many are certified through the National Boards, and ALL turned on a dime to become excellent online teachers in 2020. Our staff are the heart of our district as they keep our schools functioning through transportation, food, maintenance and operations. Our Superintendent and administrators work diligently to ensure the building leadership is thriving while keeping a pulse on the social emotional aspect of all their patronage. Our board continues to lead and learn along with the rest of the district as we strive to for continuous improvement. Our district is becoming a National Model of Educational Excellence as other school districts look to Riverview to learn about the Riverview Way. Let’s keep moving forward toward the future to ensure that our students receive the education they deserve!
