I have worked with Lori Oviatt on the Riverview School District School Board for over two years.
The depth and breadth of her knowledge of both local and state education issues is vast. She knows key players at every level, is well-connected with other school boards across the state, and has served in numerous leadership positions in organizations such as WSSDA (Washington State School Directors Association) and WIAA (Washington Interscholastic Activities Association). She has presented at both state and national school board conventions, and is the founder of Riverview’s tremendously successful Ambassador Program to name only a few of her many accomplishments.
Lori doesn’t hesitate to ask tough questions. Her quest to make sure that our Riverview students are receiving the best education possible knows no bounds. She’s not afraid to challenge her other board members, the Superintendent, or district staff to ensure that we are working toward our vision of becoming a national model of education excellence. She has also formed relationships with many state legislators advocating for Riverview students on a state level as well.
Lori is a lifelong learner, and encourages those around her to do the same. She is passionate about the deliberate use of technology in classrooms, and has helped drive Riverview’s efforts in that area. Due in large parts to her efforts, RSD will be implementing a 1:1 program in the Fall of 2017 where every student at CHS will have a dedicated laptop for his/her use. The same will be true for 8th grade students at Tolt.
Finally, Lori has been an indispensable mentor to me as I transitioned onto the Riverview School Board. The learning curve is a steep one. Everything from meeting agendas, board protocols, processes, key players, local and state education issues can all be a little overwhelming. Lori has helped me navigate it all, and has served to help me ensure that I have had all the information I needed as I worked to become a fully competent board member. Her help and information come from a deep, hard-earned well of knowledge that only 11 years of experience as an elected school board director can bring.
I heartily endorse Lori Oviatt for re-election to the Riverview School District Board of Directors.
