Lori Oviatt was appointed to the Riverview Board of Directors on April 25, 2006 to fulfill the remaining term of office upon resignation of a current director. She was re-elected to that position in November 2007, 2013, and 2017. She is an active Riverview School District volunteer and community member since 1994. Her service on the Eagle Rock Multi-Aged Site-Based Council, District Communication Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, Superintendent Search Committee, Interview Committee, Co-Curricular Committee, District Technology Committee, and Senior Project committee has earned her the Riverview Bridge Builder service pin.
Lori serves on the Washington State School Director’s Association (WSSDA) Interscholastic Activities Association (IAC) – which she was elected to by fellow state board directors. She represents District 2 on the IAC and serves on the board of directors for the SEA-KING League for the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA). She was selected by the WSSDA Board of Directors to represent all WA state school directors on the WIAA Board of Directors as an Honorary member.
Lori presents to school board directors across the state on topics such as fiscal responsibility, onboarding new school directors, social media, sports, activities, student voice and being an ambassador for your district.
Ms. Oviatt earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instructional Technology from Iowa State University, and formerly taught second grade in Iowa. She has taught at all levels, including adult education.
Ms. Oviatt worked at Microsoft for 20+ years and continues to work for the company as a learning designer. As a Learning Consultant, she also works for nonprofit agencies training technology workers.
She and her husband, James, have a blended family of five children with three who graduated from Cedarcrest High School. She has four grandchildren with two in the district attending Carnation Elementary.
